Meet our team:

Terrey Johnson: Master of grape growing

Husband of Barbie, and GM of Slow Wine Co and Bantry Grove Farms. Terrey has a bachelor degree in Rural Science, and fifty years’ experience in Agriculture. He created the wine business with first plantings in 1990, and lead the business into wine production in 2004. He is responsible for vineyard management and manages key relationships such as wine making and subsequent distribution, local wine trade sales and oversees beef cattle production and sales.

Barbie Johnson: Markets professional

Barbie is the rock that all families need, performing multiple roles that include wife, mother, grannie, farmer markets and cellar door roles. She has complete responsibility for Farmer Markets and regularly attends Eveleigh (Carriageworks) on the first Saturday of each month in Sydney, and locally at Bathurst and Blayney market days.

Jen Bayliss: Cellar Door Manager

Jen attended boarding school in Sydney, she then spent a year travelling through the UK and Europe. When back in Sydney Jen entered the Hospitality industry and quickly found she really enjoyed it. In 2005 she decided to head home to the family farm at Bantry Grove and has been there ever since. She loves being out on the farm but she is now mostly managing the Cellar Door. With a love of wine knowledge, her enjoyment of the Cellar Door comes from  meeting all the fabulous people who visit for a tasting. She insisted on making Tasting Platters available in the cellar door so guests can sit in the sun with good wine, good food and good company, the perfect combination. 

 

Scott Bayliss: 

Husband of Jen, and chef of the Cellar Door. In 2005 Scott trained to be a pastry chef, with his skills and passion the Tapas Bar has become an exiting new venture, Scott is creating new French inspired dishes for our Friday night Wine Bar. Scott spent his childhood playing on his grandparents farm so when he became a part of the Johnson Family, he was excited to get back to the land. We love Scott's can-do attitude, with a love of working with wood, he designed and built the majority of the furniture in the Cellar Door, and a keen farmer tending to the cattle of Bantry Grove. 

 

Will Rickard-Bell: The craftsman – aka winemaker

Winemaker since 2013, CSU Wagga graduate with experience in France (Bordeaux), Yarra Valley, Hunter Valley and now Orange. Will is a local (schooled in Bathurst) and has a passion to use time and old-world methods to craft wines with taste and texture from single Estate grown, hand-picked vines. Will, Tim Esson and Terrey work very closely together to pick and make wines of the very highest quality possible from our very old volcanic soils.

Tim Esson: Viticulturist

Tim is our viticulturalist using his New Zealand degree and many years of experience on both sides of the ditch to advise and monitor on all things involved in growing and harvesting super premium wine grapes for a number of Orange Wine Region businesses. He is passionate about three things in life; his family, growing grapes and his beloved All Blacks.
